Getting your own decoy
I do make decoys for others, and depending on the year and how life goes some years more then others. With that said, I have recently relocated to British Columbia from New Brunswick and have started a new career with BC Hydro, so as you can imagine my decoy production has slowed down!
Long before our move I noticed that the demand for my work was getting much greater then my ability to meet the demand and as such, the wait to get a finished bird began to grow. I no longer say when a bird will be finished, only where it sits in the queue. Also, I wont accept the required 50% deposit until I get closer to making your decoy, and if you change your mind between ordering and finalising not a problem.
I base my pricing off a gunner either cork or cedar the price is the same for most poses. If you wish a hen puddler or eider add 10%. Should your desire be a fancy gunner the base price increases by 50% with the same 10% hen premium. For mixed rigs of 6 or more I don’t charge the hen premium.
A note about “the hen premium”. Simply stated, the paint job of even the simplest hen puddler or eider takes considerably more time then other drakes and hens and the premium is just and effort to recover some of that.
